Mo cuts the ribbon at boxing clubs new headquarters

SEPTEMBER 9, 2019: Mo Chaudry said he was honoured and privileged to be invited to perform the official opening ceremony of Wellington Boxing Academys new headquarters.

The group, which has former world champion Richie Woodhall as its president, has come a long way in its 10-year history, producing multiple amateur champions, and several professionals. Mo has been supporting the club from the very start.

The academy had outgrown its previous base at Regent Street, and has now moved into the former New College Telford premises, in King Street, with state-of-the-art facilities.

Speaking at the launch, Mo said: This boxing club is a vital part of the community, and Im so proud to have been involved right from the beginning.

Look around we have the police, the council, and many other institutions backing it, which is great to see.

I for one, as a kid who has moved on a little bit, have never forgotten my roots in Wellington. I feel honoured and privileged to have been asked to come here and open this fantastic new club. Its absolutely amazing, compared to how it all started.

Well done to everyone who has been involved the academy has grown into something which is a different scale altogether from where it began.

It is more than just about breeding excellence its about the community; bringing children off the streets, giving them a purpose, a sense of character, and a friendship group.

Sport is a saviour for a lot of us me included. This club is run entirely by volunteers who give up their time, and that in itself is quite inspiring to people like myself to back them with sponsorship.
